This is my friend Abby.

In 2018, I was tagged in a video on Facebook by Abby’s mom, Kelly, of 8-year-old Abby playing the piano and singing “Master of the Ocean.” It was so fun to see and hear one of my songs being shared exactly how I always wanted them to be: by children.

The following year, I reached out to Kelly to see if Abby could come when we filmed “My Own Sacred Grove.” This is when I found out that The Lervolds lived in California and coming to Utah would be difficult. Over the next several years, we continued to stay in touch, and Abby continued to share my music. I even tried again to get her to come to Utah last year when we re-recorded “Master of the Ocean,” but a Utah trip was, again, nearly impossible.

Then I had a brilliant idea. Instead of bringing Abby from California to Utah for a video, we would bring a video to Abby! We recorded Abby’s vocals with a local studio in California, Becky mixed them into the track here in Utah, and we filmed the video in California when we came for a family reunion. Even my videographer, Josh, and his wife, Courtney, drove through the night to make it happen.

Working with Abby was just as much fun as I imagined it would be. It was truly a magical experience, and I am so happy that I got to meet and work with this wonderful young woman who I have grown to love. Abby is talented, fun, and filled with the light of Christ. I can’t wait for you to see her shine in this video!
