A few months ago, I had a conversation with my mom that ended with me saying, "Mom, maybe no one wants to sing songs about repentance."

The very next day, I woke up with the phrase, "Be a Little Better" on my heart, and I knew it was a song I had to write.

When I was a child, I thought repentance was a long checklist, and being a perfectionist, I was afraid to make any mistakes because I was worried I would forget one of the "steps."

As I've gotten older, I've realized that repentance is the continual,  joyful process of becoming more like Jesus.  It's trying again and turning to Him day after day.  It's trusting in His infinite atonement, perfect love, and endless grace.

It's letting Him heal and change you.

I'm still not sure if anyone wants to sing a song about repentance, but I hope this one might change your mind.

Here are the lyrics:

I want to be like Jesus

I’m doing my best

Alone, I can’t be perfect

He makes up the rest

One of God’s greatest gifts

Is when I repent, He forgives

I’ll be a little better

I’ll be a little better every day

Turning to my Savior

Turning to my Savior and His grace

I feel joy when I follow Him

I can change; I can try again

I’ll be a little better

Every day

In moments when I stumble

Or fall from the path

His arms are reaching for me

To welcome me back

One of God’s greatest gifts

Is when I repent, He forgives

I’ll be a little better

I’ll be a little better every day

Turning to my Savior

Turning to my Savior and His grace

I feel joy when I follow Him

I can change; I can try again

I’ll be a little better

Every day

When sin and sorrow make their mark

Jesus heals my broken heart

I’ll trust in His redeeming love

No matter when

No matter what

I’ll be a little better

I’ll be a little better every day

Turning to my Savior

Turning to my Savior and His grace

I feel joy when I follow Him

I can change; I can try again

I’ll be a little better

Every day

I’ll be a little better

Every day
