This is a great activity that can be used with older children, younger children, and younger children (with slight variation for littles.)
How to use this activity:
Prep: Print out the verse you are teaching (I would NOT recommend teaching the verses at the same time.) Cut on the dotted line of each page. Attach the pictures and wordstrips to the bottom of the board out of order.
1) Ask the children to put the pictures in order while you sing the verse (don't sing the chorus this week). Challenge them to have it finished before you finish singing the verse 3 times.2) After the third time through, "check their work" by singing the verse one more time and pointing to the pictures as you sing.
3) Ask the children to put the wordstrips in order while you sing the song three more times.
4) Challenge the children to sing just the words represented by the picture while you sing the other words, then switch.
*For younger children, skip step 3 and the second part of part 4.
Why I love this activity:-The lyrics in this song are very visual, and this helps the children imagine what they are singing about.
-This activity is great for a variety of learning preferences, including visual learners, logic learners, and word/concrete representation of word learners.
-If executed as suggested above, you will sing the song 9 times, all the while, the children will be completely engaged.
-Step 4 supports "audition," or "hearing" the song in your head without vocalizing it. This is a great tool for memorization.
